Proper Brushing

The benefits of proper and daily oral hygiene are countless.  Dental research has shown that healthy teeth and gums reflect positively on the health of the entire body.  Diseased gums can worsen diabetes, heart conditions and many other systemic diseases.  With that in mind, it is important to properly brush and floss your teeth daily.  Here are a few pointers to get the most out of brushing your teeth:
  1. Every time you brush your teeth you need to spend a full three minutes (that’s right, 180 seconds!)
  2. The best times to brush are right before you go to bed and after meals.
  3. Use a pea sized portion of fluoride containing tooth paste
  4. Hold the brush at a 45 degree angle towards the gums (Figure 1)
  5. Gently move the brush in small dime size circles (Figure 2)
  6. Brush the outer, inner and chewing surfaces of your teeth
  7. It is easier to brush the outer surfaces of your back molars when your mouth is half closed

Even with proper daily oral hygiene, a professional dental cleaning every three to six months is essential to maintaining dental health.  Our care goes beyond saving teeth, we strive to provide you with healthy teeth, gums and a beautiful smile.  If we can be of service to you and your family, do not hesitate to call us for a dental consultation v
